I was in a short doc—"Road to Step" by Memphis Filmmaker Zaire Love
Since 2017, I have served as adviser for the Eta Beta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity—mostly known as the Ole Miss Sigmas. One of the things that I look forward to each year is watching—and helping when possible—the chapter plan, practice for, and participate in the annual Homecoming Stepshow. In 2019, we worked with Memphis artist and filmmaker Zaire Love to capture that process. We wanted to show the effort and imagination that goes into putting on a stepshow, and to tell a story about the positions that dance and movement hold in black culture and life.
The short documentary is beautifully done. The stepshow wasn't too bad either. The team won—its fourth in a row.
