Teacher of the Year (Mississippi Humanities Council, 2020)

Toward the end of last year, I was awarded Teacher of the Year by the Mississippi Humanities Council. The good news came amidst a bunch of other good news: my book (I Don't Like the Blues: Race, Place, and the Backbeat of Black Life) was published, and I was named co-editor of the academic journal Sociology of Race and Ethnicity.
The "Teacher of the Year" award came with an opportunity to deliver a "special lecture." Mine was a story about race, place, and Mississippi. Check it out below:
